I love buttons, the lovely bright colours and the fun shapes. I also hate boringĀ clothes so a couple of years ago I sewed some fab new buttons to a plain back cardigan, and then another purple one with crayon buttons. I think they are really fun and quirky and I thought I’d show you how to make one yourself.
You will need: a plain cardigan, buttons, black thread, scissors and a needle.
First you need to carefully cut the original buttons off the cardigan. Choose the correct amount of buttons and use some creativity to decide which ones you are going to use in what order. Bright colours work best on black cardigans, if you have a coloured cardigan use colours that complement the colour, so if you are using red, try using purple, orange or pink buttons, if you are using a blue cardigan, use green, turquoise or purple buttons. Thread your needle and tie the end into a sturdy knot. Do a couple of stitches where you want to put the button to secure the thread.
Thread on the button and sew through a couple of times. Tie a couple of knots to secure the button and then do the same for the other buttons.
That’s it! I chose to use some fun kids buttons, in a rainbow of colours. Here is the other cardigan, a purple one with a set of crayon shaped buttons. Another thing to check is that the buttons go through the holes.
So there we go, a cute cardigan with bright buttons!
Love, Mrs Gardom
